Haiti scare the Bahamas!

June 11, 2009 - Former CVC champions the Bahamas suffered a scare and St. Lucia found easy prey in the Cayman Islands when the 2nd round of the 2010 FIVB World Championships qualifier continued at the Wildey Gym last night.

The Bahamas who are to meet host Barbados in tonight’s final Pool A play were last night taken to five sets by Haiti before sneaking home, 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11.  Melinda Bastian scored 27 points including a whopping 23 kills for the Bahamas while Karin Bernardin scored 15 points in a losing effort for Haiti.

St. Lucia’s captain, Dania Hamilton then slammed 14 kills for her country to stop the Cayman Islands in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-23.  The Cayman who are coached by Barbadian Curtis Richards actually lead in the third set, 21-15.  Eleanor Berry with 12 points was the high scorer for the Cayman.

The final pool play will take place on Friday 12 with Jamaica meeting the Cayman at 6.30 and Barbados clashing with the Bahamas at 8.30.
