July 9, 2010 - Former two-times Caribbean MVP Shari Matthews and Cheyne Freeman proved to be the top candidates when the FIVB Regional Volleyball Development Centre in Barbados graduated another batch of international level I volleyball coaches.
Freeman who plays for division two team Plus The Club and coaches the Queen’s College School team was the overall top student among the 14 candidates who gained the Level I certificates in the theory and practice of volleyball. The 12 day course was conducted by Kurt Radde of Germany along with Dan Girleanu who is the Director of the Development Centre at Wildey.
The no-nonsense FIVB instructor Radde complimented the local body for organising one of the best course that he had ever conducted while ecnouraging the successful candidates to see their achievment as being more than acquiring a certificate. “The role and responsibilities of coaching will now begin as you build on the basic training which you have now acquired to prepare yourselves to become international coaches,” Radde stated.
Candidates attending the course came from host Barbados as well as Curacao, Aruba, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago and Puerto Rico. The Regional Volleyball Development Centre will be holding a coaching course in beach volleyball in November which will close off the 2010 calendar.
