June 28, 2010 - A record 23 international coaches are currently pursuing the FIVB International Coaches Certificate, Level I, at the Regional Volleyball Development Centre in Wildey under German instructor Kurt Radde and Dan Girleanu of Romania.
    Coordinator of the Barbados-based Centre, Andrew Hoyte inidicated that  this was not only the largest number of participants taking part in a course at the three-year centre but it was the greatest mix of regional coaches with representation from Aruba, Puerto Rico, Curacao, Eustace, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and host, Barbados.
    “We made a valiant effort to get the Caribbean countries to take part in this course as the successful partcipation of our regional countries in international course conducted here in English is what will continue to make our Regional Development Centre a success,” Hoyte stated.
    “Significantly, 15 Barbadian are pursuing their Level I Certificate which will increase the coaches’ pool as well as the wealth of knowledge at the domestic and national level,” added Hoyte who is also chairman of the selection committee.  National players, Shari Matthews, Julia Lewis, Tonya Joseph and Torand Cheltenham are taking part in the course.
    The course will run for 12 days with the coaches being asked to attend at least eight hours a day to fulfil the FIVB required hours.  The participants will be tested in practical and theoretical exams at the end of the required hours to gain their Level I Certificates.
