June 18, 2010 - Both Springer Memorial and Christ Church Foundation repeated as champions of the NSC/Super Centre Junior volleyball league when the finals were staged at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Friday 18 June.

What was remarkable for the boys’ champions Foundation was that they played throughout the tournament without dropping a set and then they consigned Coleridge & Parry to be runners-up for the second year in succession by defeating the boys from the north, 25-13, 25-17.

Best spiker, best blocker and MVP, Leshon Alexander who is a junior national was a cut above his opponents from CP.  Alexander’s only threat of being outplayed came from his Barbados and Foundation teammate Jabarry Goodridge who was just as deadly at the net.

Barbados Carifta athlete Janeil Craigg along Nikoli Bovell fought valiantly but they could not match the Foundation team with coach Fernando Skeete enjoying the luxury of allowing his subs to just cheer the starting six on to an encore performance in the junior finals.

Springer girls were made to battle for three sets to stop a plucky Alleyne School, 25-21, 23-25, 15-9.  Nya Jordan who would later capture the Best Defender Award for Alleyne was asked to use all of her skills as Springer attack was unleashed from early in the match.

The serving of Shakeira Jack-Wilkinson was worrying for Alleyne with Shakita Husbands also trying repeatedly to stop Springer’s constant spikes at the net.  But after sneaking home in the second set, Alleyne could not repeat in the decider which forced the East Coast girls to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to their coach former Barbados captain, Anthazia Mason instead of giving her the present that she really wanted.

Earlier Colerdige & Parry took the third spot in the girls by defeating Foundation, 25-15, 25-17.  Combermere earned the third spot with a default win over the Alleyne.
