January 15, 2010: Team Barbados began its defence to the CAZOVA Youth Championship title in Willemstad, Curacao by defeating Trinidad & Tobago 25-18, 25-17, 25-15. Playing at the Errol Rooi, SDK the Bajan lads were led in attack by vice-captain Kyle Browne with 14 kills. Browne, the setter from the Junior Tournament held in August last year, had a slow start in his new role as an outside attacker but built up momentum as the game progressed. With excellent passes by Libero Jabarry Goodridge, setter Ramon Blades was able to utilise the range of attack, involving the middles and opposite attack throughout the game. As stated by Coach Frank Almendariz Davalos, it was important to begin the tournament with a win, so as to build team confidence.

In the other match, home team Curacao defeated Netherland Antilles 25-20, 25-18, 25-21. The Netherland Antilles lads were a late addition to the tournament after Martinique withdrew citing traumatic, emotional effects following the disaster in Haiti.

Barbados' next match is against Netherland Antilles today Saturday at 6pm.
