January 14, 2010 - Barbados will be looking to regain their volleyball supremacy in the Caribbean when an experienced team defends the youth title at the second Caribbean youth tournament in Curacao this weekend.
The talented setter from Combermere, Ramon Blades will captain the team which will compete against Trinidad & Tobago, Martinique and the hosts Curacao. Half of the youth team had taken part in the junior CVC in Guadeloupe last year.
The youth tournament was supposed to be held in 2009 but only a last minute rescue attempt by Curacao lead to the scaled down competition being held in 2010. In 2007 Barbados’ boys continued the Bajans’ legacy in the Caribbean by winning the inaugural youth CVC which was held in T&T.
Barbados will head off to Curacao on Friday with the hopes of returning on Monday with the championship cup. The team is Ramon Blades (S) – captain, Kyle Browne (PH), Raphael Anthony (M), Ramon Inniss (PH), Jerome Stuart (OP), Klode Thompson (M), Shaquille Barker (PH), Jabarry Goodridge (L), Leshon Alexander (PH), Nicholas Callender (M), Kohbia Barrow (M), coach by Cuban Frank Almendariz with Dale Addison being his assistant. Manager of the squad is Sean Codrington while Carol-Lyn Edghill will head the delegation.
