The BVA also won the National Sports Council’s Association of the Year Award for the fourth time.
Kenmore has represented Barbados at regional and international volleyball congresses not only throughout the Caribbean, but likewise in Argentina, Atlanta, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Portugal. Since 1984, Kenmore has commentated and reported on local and regional volleyball for the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation and is generally considered the “voice” of local volleyball. He also writes for the Daily Nation. In disclosing Kenmore Bynoe’s appointment, President of the BVA, John Griffith highlighted that 2005 will be a critical year for volleyball in Barbados, as the country prepares to host the first round of World Championship Qualifiers for men and women in June. Barbados men will compete later at Norceca in Canada, while the women will battle in Trinidad & Tobago. The Barbados women's team will also make their debut at the Pan Am Cup in the Dominican Republic during that month, while the Junior boys and girls will compete at the Caribbean Volleyball Championships in Aruba in July. Griffith said, "We are optimistic that the Qualifiers in June will be the launch date for the highly anticipated Barbados Regional Development Centre by FIVB." He continued, "We are also in the process of acquiring funding for the Barbados men’s team to enter a programme geared towards winning a medal at the Pan Am Games in 2007 and to this end, it is critical that Barbados install the personnel who will be fully committed to guiding our volleyball to the next level. Kenmore’s knowledge of the sport is daily sought after by the BVA’s executives, the media and the public. The respect which he has commanded during the past 20 years throughout the volleyball fraternity makes him the ideal candidate for this position.” |
